Our baby turned 4 on December 4th! On her actual birthday she wanted to dress "super fancy" for the whole day and picked out her outfit dripping in purple glam. That night we went to Mesa Rosa for her birthday dinner since it was close by and my sister was working so it was a way to see her. After we went to my parents to open gifts from family and have some cake. She was overjoyed by each gift and loved feeling special. Scarlett was overly aware about birthdays this past year and she is last out of the family, so she was always asking if it was her turn!
Her birthday party I was able to throw together last minute. I had been so sick and had dealt with a couple set backs, so I was hoping she wouldn't noticed. But when it was clear she did, I quickly got some guest rounded up and dug out the things I had bought for her party out of a box.
The party was Nutcracker Ballet theme which had become a major obsession with her since the past summer. She watched several versions and listened to the music in the car and her room. She loved any books with the story and new each character. The activity was painting nutcrackers and then we did cake and presents. I'm so grateful to those who helped make her day feel special! It was awesome!
Scarlett at age 4 is more animated then ever. Her speech is way beyond what it was the previous year. She has still been placed on the Autism spectrum, but this past year I got so caught up with Drs and research that I decided to really just focus on the fact that this is my daughter, I have been chosen to be her Mom. This means I will love her and teach her what our father in heaven wants her to know. She may learn differently, but instead of worrying about what may have caused it, or why I have let it go and except that this is who she is. I love her regardless, its not about that. But there is no fixing here. The biggest difference, which I consider us lucky, is that she can easily get overwhelmed in situations and just shut down which requires me to remove her for a moment and calmly just check in with her. She has a very independent mind to where she might be doing something completely boring but still very involved, and if I come in and say we're doing something different she panics. Even if its switching to something she loves! It doesn't matter, she isn't good with switching gears. This makes it difficult in classrooms or daily tasks, but again it is something we have learned to be patient with and approach differently. She is so so smart and can figure things out in great detail. She loves to fix things and study things which is awesome! I never give up on activities. Things like Dance class or Sunday school she will sometimes just not want to try, OR do things her way. I don't just take her with me, or let her play instead. Those blocks of time are put aside for those activities, if she doesn't want to do them, there isn't a fun replacement. She isn't punished, because I understand her thinking, but slowly she starts to learn that being part of that routine is actually a funner choice then sitting in the car for an hour.
We are still learning and growning, but I can say that Scarlett is such a blessing in my life. I love to hold and cuddle her every day. She is so caring (even though it may not come out that way if say a kid gets in her bubble) but truly she is so loving. She brings up other kids all the time and loves to play. She has been so involved with my pregnancy and worries about me and helps me stay strong! It is so cute. We love her smile and her non stop energy! We love her singing and dancing. We love her passion for fashion! This girl comes up with a detailed outfit head to toe daily! She loves accessories and frill! We adore her art work that she wraps into a scroll with a seal or envelope with a homemade stamp. She is so brave, to the point where she has to calm her older sister and reassure her that something that seems scary is no big deal. I'm so grateful for her in my life!
