Woman's Conference

The head of my church's woman's organization, the Relief Society, Sister Julie Beck came to Austin for a conference over the weekend. It was a very refreshing time for us women. I honestly could look around and see people connected to all different times of my life, which is really neat. I took some key notes, some I'd like to share!

We live in world where the roles of woman have been drastically changed. The importance of being a wife and mother are now downplayed and even looked down on. Woman are now more encouraged to seek positions of power and glory. --For me this was a big answer to what I've been dealing with lately. I sometimes feel like being a Mom isn't enough, that doing things with my kids all day is looked at as a waste of time. I'm more confident then ever that this is the greatest thing I can be doing in my life right now, nothing is more important. Something new to me was hearing that if you have a husband that doesn't carry a strong influence in the home or with the kids, its still your job to be. I sometimes want to slack if Ben is struggling, but I'll have no excuse in the end. I'm a strong presence and example and my girls will remember that, if not vividly, then it will show in the way they grow and act. That's why being a parent is such a huge responsibility.

When you see a Mom in need, help her. Don't think she doesn't have control over her kids just because they're acting out. A community can help raise children. We can be good strong role models for children around us, whether we have children or don't. Whether our children are young or grown.

Things that should be in order of importance in your life, should be
1.Church, keeping the spirit in your home. Read the scriptures, pray always, keep a positive heart. Serve others, etc.
2. Home, keeping up with house work. We all know what those things are and they never disappear do they? LOL
3. Hobbies/Me time, its important to have those moments to do things you enjoy. Its great to have things you're involved in that can give your brain a rest. But its promised that by taking care of the other things first you will find the time. Don't put yourself first in fear you'll never have a chance.

Sister Beck said her mother always said to start the day with 4 things.
1. Get out of bed to your knees and pray
2.Grab the scriptures and read, even if its a vrs.
3.Make your bed
4. Get dressed
"If you're walking around at 10 or even the afternoon and you're still in your pajamas, you're behind!"

She said that by taking care of one person (being you) and one room then you'll be more likely be able to do the same for others in your home and other spaces. I've done this myself in the past, you feel 10x better if you just put an effort in! It matters for you, for your kids, company and hello! Your husband. I'm not talking getting ready for a runway, just clothes and brushing your hair.

I took tons of notes, I couldn't stop! It was such a great experience! I've got some new goals now, and I'm pretty confident that I'll stick to them!
