O Christmas Tree!!

This year we decided to adopt a new tradition, going to the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm and cutting down a fresher then fresh tree for the holidays! We of course stopped for some classic Elgin sausage which was delish!

The weather was so perfect, it was sunny and yet very brisk outside so it totally felt like the holidays. The girls and I looked around the Christmas Cottage shop while Ben got all the info. Then we all hopped onto a hay ride that takes you out to the available trees. Right off the bat poor Scarlett started walking and then after a couple steps softly said "Ouch! Shoe!" and she froze, so I lifted her up and saw tons of stickers deep in her feet, but she just calmly waited for us to pry them out. Brave girl! I held her the rest of the time. Michelle was drawn to all the small trees LOL we had to convince her to get one for our living room. The workers warned us that because of the drought the trees didn't grow as full and strong this year...and they were right. We found one that seemed to be fuller on the bottom, from a distance we saw many that would be better but the walk with the girls would probably be too long.

So Ben got to work with the saw, we yelled "Timber!" when it dropped. I told him he could now cross off "Chop Down Tree" from his "Man List" LOL We kept having a good laugh over that one through the day. Then Michelle waved down the tractor for the hay ride back with our tree. It was so fun for the girls they were squealing non stop! While our tree was being shacken and wrapped up and placed on our car, I took the girls to a play area where they swinged on some swings and played.

The trip home was smooth, and we listen to some great holiday tunes. When we got home Michelle not only wanted the ornament box, but ALL the Christmas decorations, I was going to wait, but then thought Whatever! Lets do it! Everything was up in a flash thanks to Michelle's help! In the meantime Ben got the tree set up...poor thing, it had holes everywhere. But the smell was amazing! Scarlett caught on to the ornaments right away! She just grabbed one and was the first to hang it from the tree! Michelle was franticly putting them on with graceful speed! (That girl could be in interior design!)

When the tree was done we turned off all the lights. Then Michelle started calling us over and started singing "Deck the Halls" while reaching for our hands. This is a scene during the end of the new Barbie Christmas movie the girls bought, Barbie's little sister started singing it and then reached for her sisters along with family and freind's who all started holding hands and singing a different part. Ben and I played along just like the movie after her cue. It was so cute, and Scarlett knew what she was doing and loudly started singing "LA LA LA LA!!!!" and she ran for my hand! So there we were, the four of us sining "Deck the Halls", hand in hand, swaying back and forth. I looked down at my two girl's glowing faces and thought "Life doesn't get better then this!"

We may have gotten some stickers to the feet, and our tree was leaning (literally) towards a Charlie Brown tree. But the joy this experience brought our family was really what this time of year is all about! Can't wait for this every year!
