Today was Michelle's first Cheerleading practice. This is a 8 week program we signed her up for that includes 4 soccer games her squad will preform at. She expressed interest a few months back, saw some things on tv with Cheerleaders and would see them in a couple of parades and football games and said she wanted to try it. She's done Dance, but thats something I just put her in. This is the first thing she's decided to do on her own and it just fits her personality!
We met her teacher, Mrs. Kristina, who she and I discovered we've met each other before but don't know where. We know we go to the same church but not sure how we actually met. But its nice to have some familiarity there! Parents have the option of staying in the class to watch, or leaving. I decided to leave since I'm big on building independence but at this age she still has the security of me being near by. I snuck some peeks and saw that she was totally into it, the look on her face was very focused and at times full of laughter and smiles! At one point she saw me and sweetly "shooed" me away! Thats new! LOL I'm glad she is finding strength in her own space. She's also excited about the shirts they'll get that will be their uniform along with her shorts and new sneakers. (She's never really had sneakers before, I've only really gotten her flats or flashy tennis shoes...the day we got them she wouldn't take them off and calls them her special cheerleading shoes! Apparently they make her run faster and cheer nice and loud! LOL)
When we left she couldn't stop talking about it and showed my parents, siblings, and her Dad all that she learned! She says her favortie part were the Pom Poms that "Have sticks in them to hold on to!" She also said that she loves that she can be loud in this class. In dance she is so chatty that she is always told to be quiet. Which is fine and good that she learns discipline! But she's naturally an outspoken kid when she gets comfortable with her surroundings. I'm so glad she has this! If it goes well we'll put her in a class full time!
