Beach Trip 2010

It started with Michelle telling us randomly one day that she really wanted to go to the beach. She's never seen the ocean, but with her fav Barbie movie of them moment along with Nemo, Little Mermaid etc, and pics of friends on the internet it was constantly on her mind. A couple months later we finally find the time and money to go! We decided on Galveston, since I'm more familiar with that area. The drive down with a toddler and a baby? Not bad actually, there were maybe 2 fussy moments on the way there if that, on the way back same thing. They actually both slept for 2 1/2 hours both ways, which is most of the drive. So it was nice!

We got to the hotel, another first for Shelly. She didn't know where we were at first, but made herself right at home in the closet! LOL She kept saying she had to go to the bathroom just to keep going to the bathroom, and loved jumping on the bed! (Its a vacation, I'm cool with it there) After getting ready she requested a surf board, so we got her a small one and hit the shore. Right has her feet hit the sand she was like "Um...mom? What is this?" LOL We set up our stuff and Ben took Shelly out. It was so cute seeing her hit the waves! She took like a fish and loved every second. She actually tried the board over and over! I thought after the first 5 wipeouts she'd be over it, but she kept going. She loved jumping the waves too! We also decided to find SeaShells together. It was a great bonding experience! We found some cute ones that we'll make a necklace out of.

The girls and I attempted to make a sandcastle! LOL It was not cute, but of course to kids its breathtaking! Scarlett loved digging her hands in the sand. She thought it was the best feeling ever! She also loved the seaweed. These are textures she's never felt before so she was really into it. The water? Not so much. She loves swimming at home, like never cries or anything when swimming or bathing. But at the edge where the water meets the sand, she kinda got nervous. She would watch this loud water rush up to her, then surround her with coldness, then feel the ground shift underneath her as the water pulls back...so yeah I guess pretty strange feeling for a baby! LOL Everytime she saw the water rush up towards her after that, she would brace herself by holding her arms up and would get this look on her face like "Oh boy! Oh boy! Here we go!!" LOL So I just held her and then she was super happy splashing away!

We went to a great seafood place after that and sat on the top deck to overlook the ocean, it was so peaceful and yummy! After we went back to the hotel were both of the girls after getting into PJs were wrestling non stop and cracking up on the huge bed! I've never heard so much laughter! It was such a great night! Of course Michelle pushing me to the edge all night wasn't too fun! LOL The next day we slept in, got some lunch at another great seafood place on the shore, and then went back to the beach. This time we flew kites, which Michelle also loved. She got "surfing" down a little better. She kept singing two songs from her Barbie movie "Summer Sunshine" and "Queen of the Waves" LOL Pretty valley girl surfing music!

At one point I go out alone into the water and look out for a minute. I remember coming here as a kid with my sister and the fun we had. Life was so carefree back then, no stress no worries. I think about how being an adult really fills your head with noise, its hard to just sit and relax. So I force myself to take a minute and get lost in the ocean...it was harder then I thought, but I manged to get that moment for myself. On the way back I watched my family. So beautiful, such a gift. There are some tough moments, endless ones. But in moments like these all of that disappears. You just feel so lucky to have them. We packed up after that and the second the girls were in their car seats they were OUT! LOL They slept till about Giddings, so it was great! Ben and I got to talk about how awesome the trip was, and then just really talk. Our best convos are always on long drives, which we love!

We got home with some nice tans, and a relaxed feel. It was a great mini trip! Actually the first trip we've done just us, one we hope to do once a year now. Great suggestion Shelly!
