Michelle got in trouble today for saying a bad word. The kid who told on her? The one who had taught her the word in the first place. He says it "all the time" while teachers aren't around. Michelle came home in tears saying she felt so guilty for saying a bad word and I asked her what it was. She told me and I lifted an eye brow. Interesting. She was saying "Oh darn!" but instead of darn, used the "b" word. The way she said it was so un-natural and so not in the right way when said so nonchalant and chill, it was obvious to me she had no idea what context its even used in. Then she told me the whole story, that ended with her being in shock she said something bad because she thought this boy just made it up.
We had a nice convo about it that had me cracking up.
Me:"Michelle sometimes kids make wrong choices. If a kid says/does something strange around you, don't repeat the actions just to be safe. And further more, we don't judge others for making the wrong choice either, they may not have been taught that its wrong yet and thats why you should always be a good example!"
Shell: "I see what you're saying. Its like how we are all born different because God made us all different. Some are tall some are short, dark hair, light hair. Maybe he was just born with that word because God made him that way!"
Me: "Um, no actually that word is something you learn. God doesn't like that word at all! We are perfect when we're born! That's why we are here on earth, to learn to choose right over wrong. So we are not born with bad words in our heads. Satan is the one who tells our minds that its ok to say those things when its not."
Shell: "OOHHHH! So then maybe my friend was just born from Satan!" (She says this with such clarity and seriousness that I have to quickly pretend to sneeze and burry my face in my pillow to try and hide my belting laughter!)
Me: (After composing myself.) "Well actually, no. We all come from heaven to this earth, every single person. (I refer to a resent conversation she and I had on how we can't remember our life in heaven while here and that is part of our test try to make the choices needed here to get back.) So we will all make mistakes, but once we learn that it was wrong, like that word was something you didn't know was bad until today, if you have a thought to say it again, that is Satan telling you to go on and say it because he wants you to be very sad and not go back to Heavenly Father one day. Try to always remember, if you know something is wrong, do your best to try not to do it because at that point you've learned and you can be an example!"
Shell: "Yeah you're right Mommy!" (Looks up with fist in the air) "I don't like you Satan!"
Me:"No, he's not up there. Not in heaven."
Shell: "Oh. Right. He lives in...space? Right?"
Palm to face. Convo has ended until another day. LOL
