Michelle's Dance Recital

I'm telling you! A ton of work goes into a recital performance! 6 months of practice, payments, picture day, melt downs (not just from Michelle), excitement (again not just from Michelle), growing out of ballet slippers, arranging family visits, mastering a sock bun involving very long curly hair, late night hours with thread and needle mending, buying a gift for the teacher, buying flowers for your star, packing a backstage prep bag, and then all the glories of the day itself.

Its the life of a dance mom and I honestly get high off of the adrenaline rush! I love the hustle and bustle. I did when I was growing up, and now the pressure is even higher when its your kid! Now to clarify, I'm not pushing my kid to be perfect, I've never turned crazy! Promise! LOL But its definetly a day that requires Momma to be on her toes a bit!

The night before the girls got baths, Ben went to go pick up his Grandmother who lives about an hour away. Luckily the girls went right down. I got to work making sure our guest who have everything she needed and did some straightening up. Then I got to work on the costume, steaming it and mending some flowers that another girl in the class had pulled loose. I layed out all her things. When Ben finally got home I visited with Grandma for a few minutes and then tried to sleep.

The next morning breakfast was made and flowers where hidden. After getting myself ready, and Scarlett ready I did Michelle's hair. I love these moments! It reminds me its only the start to so much more in the future, baptizim, school dances, graduation, wedding, etc. I know it may seem far, but I've learned its going to be a flash! This also marks the first time I used any type of hair product on Michelle's hair! I'm big on it being untouched and away from heat and stuff like that. She was very happy! LOL We went to my parents house next and I got her dressed. I learned a tip to spray each layor of the tutu with hairspray to keep it stiff and poofy! Its awesome! But it quikly became a joke with friends and family who said it makes me look like "that mom" but whatever!

Getting to the venue was another set back, its far, and then parking was crazy, so we walked a ton! But when I got their we separated from my family (included my Mom, sisters, Ben, Scarlett and Grandma) and Shell and I headed backstage. We sat in a small hallway with tons of other girls and their Moms and I got Michelle's stage makeup all done. Then I hurried to my seat, which was really close (Thank you BEN!) Scarlett was so in love with the show! She would sing along and was in awe of the performers! (Uh oh! I feel another dancer coming along)

Michelle's class was act 11, so a couple acts before she goes on, I run back and do a quick check to make sure she's still perfect! LOL Then I get back and get the camera ready.

Her class did a ballet number set to "Spoon Full of Sugar" from Mary Poppins. Michelle is usually shy, I don't know what happens, but on stage she knocks it out of the park. She did every move and didn't stare at the teacher the whole time (she's in the corner of the stage doing the dance for the younger classes). We've watched the video a few times since, and I'm so proud of Michelle! Afterwards I brought her out and we all cheered for her. She got some gorgeous pink roses (Ben spoils her!) and we got some pictures with everyone. She said goodbye to her friends and we left.

We went to her favorite restaurant, Reales for lunch after. She got to wear a new shirt Grandma bought her. It has a ballerina on front that looks just like her. It was so much fun!

So its official that she's no longer in that tiny little girl group anymore, now she's joined the little girl group! LOL Now we branch out to a new activities and school! I'll miss these small years though! *Tear*
